Ragnvald is a 3-star Ice Thief who fights one target at a time and keeps himself going through self-sustain and turn manipulation. His basic Leap Cut is a single sword strike that heals him for an amount that grows with his Attack, and it triggers a Dual Attack from Pernilla when she is on his team. His passive nudges his own Combat Readiness up 15% at the end of each turn (and grants him and Pernilla extra Effectiveness and Effect Resistance at battle start when paired with her), while his cooldown skill Desperate strips an enemy's buffs, applies a 2-turn Defense Down, and immediately hands him an extra turn. He has no area damage at all — every hit lands on a single foe.

Counters

  • Buff-stacking and shield-reliant enemies — Desperate lands a two-turn Defense Down on a single target, softening an armored bruiser so his follow-up hits and his allies punch through far harder.
  • Tanky bruisers and high-defense targets — The 2-turn Defense Down from Desperate softens an armored single target, letting his follow-up hits and any allies punch through far harder.
  • Self-sustaining duelists in drawn-out fights — Leap Cut heals him on every basic attack and the amount scales with his Attack, so against a single opponent in a long trade he can out-last enemies that depend on slowly chipping him down.
  • Slower turn-order setups — His passive grants 15% Combat Readiness at the end of each turn, letting him act more often than his base Speed suggests and edge ahead of opponents who counted on going first.

Countered by

  • Cleanse and buff-stability supports — Because his only debuff is the Defense Down on Desperate, an ally cleanse wipes it almost immediately, and re-applied team buffs undo the strip from his one buff-removing skill, neutralizing most of his pressure.
  • Effect-resistance and immunity — His Defense Down can be resisted or simply blocked by an immunity buff, leaving him with only single-target damage and no real way to break a sturdy foe open.
  • Anti-heal and burst before he stabilizes — His durability hinges on Leap Cut's self-heal, so an unhealable debuff or a fast burst that drops him before he can heal removes his entire sustain plan.
  • The long cooldown on his only utility — The buff-strip, Defense Down, and extra turn all live on Desperate's 5-turn cooldown, so once it is spent he is reduced to single-target basic attacks and enemies can play around the gap.
