Zerato is a 4-star Ice Mage built around landing crowd control. His basic Ice Shard hits one enemy and can lower their accuracy, his Ice Pick is a single-target multi-hit that pushes his own Combat Readiness by 50% to chain extra turns, and his Iceberg ultimate is his only area attack, striking every enemy with a chance to stun for 1 turn. He also deals bonus damage to enemies who are already debuffed, so he leans on stuns and accuracy-down to set up his own hits and disrupt the enemy lineup.

Counters

  • Squishy backline carries he can lock down — His Iceberg hits the whole enemy team with a stun, and Ice Pick pushes his own Combat Readiness 50% to act again quickly, letting him stagger and re-target a key damage dealer before it gets going.
  • Teams that stack debuffs to win — He deals extra damage to enemies who are already debuffed, so against compositions that rely on landing their own debuffs first, Zerato turns their afflicted units into easy kills.
  • Dodge or accuracy-reliant attackers — Ice Shard can lower a target's hit chance, making evasion or attack-heavy enemies miss and stall their offense.

Countered by

  • Cleansers — His pressure comes from the Iceberg stun and the accuracy-down on Ice Shard; a hero who strips those debuffs immediately frees the team and undoes his control.
  • Immunity and effect resistance — His stun and accuracy reduction are chance-based and can simply fail to land, so an enemy under immunity or high effect resistance shrugs off the crowd control he is built around.
  • Long stun cooldown windows — Iceberg is on a 5-turn cooldown, so after the opening stun he has no further team control for several turns, giving fast or burst teams a clear window to punish him.
  • Fragile, all-offense kit — He has no passive, no healing, no shields, and no defensive buffs, so heavy single-target burst or anyone who out-speeds his Combat Readiness push can drop him before he sets up.
