Edward Elric is a Fire Warrior whose entire kit scales off his max Health, making him a bulky bruiser rather than a glass cannon. His single-target attacks hit hard and shield himself with a one-turn barrier, while his hardest hit (a combo with Alphonse on a 5-turn cooldown) ignores damage-sharing protections against non-boss enemies and ramps up the more he uses it. His real engine is the passive Equivalent Exchange: whenever he's struck while carrying a debuff, he cleanses one debuff off himself and counters with a full-team "Rise!" wave that dispels a buff from every enemy, applies a 2-turn random debuff (Attack Down, Blind, Provoke, Silence, or Combat Readiness block), and pushes his own turn meter by 20%. This makes him a disruptive control bruiser who self-sustains by being attacked and punishes enemies with buff-stripping and crowd control.

Counters

  • Buff-stacking and shield-reliant teams — His Rise! counter dispels a buff from every enemy each time it triggers, peeling away barriers, immortality, invincibility, and other stacked buffs that an opposing team leans on to stay alive or hit hard.
  • Setup and turn-order dependent enemies — Rise! can inflict Silence to lock down skills, Provoke to force a target onto him, and a Combat Readiness block, while also pushing his own turn meter by 20% — disrupting carries that need their cooldowns or a clean turn to function.
  • Damage-sharing protectors and bodyguards — His combo with Alphonse ignores damage-sharing effects against any non-Elite, non-Boss enemy, so a target hiding behind a redirect or guardian still takes the full HP-scaling hit.
  • Sustained slugfests and debuff-heavy openers — Because every skill scales with his huge max Health and his self-barrier soaks early hits, he trades well in long fights; being attacked while debuffed actually fuels him, since he self-cleanses one debuff and answers with a full counterattack.

Countered by

  • Effect resistance and immunity — His main disruption is the random debuff from Rise!; enemies under immunity, or with high resistance, simply shrug off the Attack Down, Blind, Provoke, Silence, or turn-meter block, leaving him with only raw damage.
  • Enemy cleanse and dispel — The 2-turn debuffs he plants and the buff-strip pressure he applies can be undone — opponents who cleanse the debuffs off themselves or re-apply buffs after his dispel neutralize his control before it matters.
  • Burst that ignores his bulk — His survival leans on max-Health scaling plus a one-turn self-barrier; defense or Health ignoring burst, or attacks that bypass the shield, can drop him faster than his slow, attack-dependent counter loop can respond.
  • Refusing to feed his passive — Rise! only triggers when he is attacked while holding a debuff, and only once per turn, with a cooldown afterward — enemies who avoid hitting him, strip his debuffs, or simply out-pace and kill his teammates first stop the engine from ever firing.
